3 Weeks Old

3 Weeks Old

Happy 3 weeks little man.

We have had several uneventful days and if you have ever had a baby in the NICU that is good news!  Ameir is up to 4 pounds 3 ounces.  He is at the 3rd percentile on the growth chart, well below where we would want him to be but we are happy that he is at least on the charts.  Today Ameir had his hearing screen and failed.  This is just a screening, all it means is that Ameir was flagged to have further testing.  We do this on an outpatient visit.

Friday Ameir got a cast on his foot, to correct his clubbed foot.

And back off the CPAP onto nasal cannula.

Ameir's nurse brought him a mobile and he loves it.

Attempt at a boppy pillow.

Adrianna got to stay at the hospital and Ronald McDonald house with me over the weekend.  She was a total baby hog!!  She helped with bath time and brushing Ameir's hair.  I could not get her to diaper him.

Look at this trick :)  Ameir has started to tongue out his feeding tube.

1 step forward 1 step back.....

August 2, 2012

17 days old

Today was a good day!  Ameir is up to 4 pounds 1 ounce.  Today was pretty uneventful which is a relief after what he showed us he could do yesterday.  Yesterday he was having some apnea where he would stop breathing for some time and turn an awful shade of blue.  His nurse thought he was maybe having a seizure so the NP gave him some ativan.  After the ativan he kinda got fidgety and started to have some twitching.  So they had neurology come up and evaluate Ameir and do an EEG which showed no seizure activity but mild cerebral  immaturity.  The good news is after the ativan the apnea went away and after a feeding the twitching went away.  He was put back on the CPAP, and next time we will try a much slower wean. Possible cause now we are thinking is low blood sugar and we will test that if the twitching happens again.

EEG in progress, poor kid...it looks worse than it was.
Done yesterday August 1, 2012.

Today since he was feeling better PT came in and wrapped Ameir's clubbed foot.

OT came in and splinted his hands.

Ameir even got his first tummy time today.  He loved it and we let him sleep this way for about an hour.

Today we also got a visit from Maristella and her mom.  Maristella also has Trisomy 18, and she is almost 3 years old.  We got to meet back in April and her mom Raffaella gave us so much information before Ameir was born I just knew I made the right choice.

Here are a few more pics from the last couple of days.
